Funding & Eligibility

Health insurance is not required for SSU students to use the SHC and the SHC does not bill or accept health insurance. However, health insurance is strongly recommended to help students and their families cover the cost of off-campus medical needs such as urgent care or hospital visits, ambulance transport, specialty care, complex diagnositc tests, out of area care or other services that are beyond the scope or hours of operation of the SHC. Students should have a basic understanding of any third party coverage they may have and always carry their insurance card with them.

You do not need medical insurance to use the SHC. Most medical visits are offered without charge to eligible SSU students (see Funding and Eligibility). Though many of your medical needs can be met by the SHC at little or no cost, we strongly recommend you continue your current health insurance (or get insurance if you don't have it) to help cover services that are beyond the scope or hours of availability of the SHC.

Fall and Spring Semesters:  Currently registered undergraduate, graduate, and extended education students who have paid the student health center fee are eligible for services. Most medical services are covered under the basic service fee with the exception of pharmacy, off-campus labs and durable medical supplies.

Summer Session: Eligibility varies during summer, nominal fees are charged. Eligible if any one of the following exists:
